The ArtistAnnick McKenzieA Passion For ColourI was born in France in 1945, lived in Canada and the USA and came to the UK in 1977. I have lived in Taplow since 1988. I am married and I have 2 sons. When I was 10 years old a visit to the Musee du jeu de Paume in Paris had a great impact on my life.. great paintings, colour everywhere. Paul Cezanne's work really touched my life. Also Van Gogh, Les Fauves, Matisse, the Scottish Colourists. Colour became my passion! I started to paint in the early 1990s, went to Art College to study Fine Art. My practice of Nichiren Buddhism with the SGI taught me that it is never too late to follow and realise your dreams! Because colour plays a key role in my approach to painting, working in acrylic enables me paint more freely. My sense of colour is instinctive and as my work develops my passion for colour has taken the dominant role. My work is about an emotional 'coup de coeur' to places and an expression of feeling. Nature is an inexhaustible source of inspiration. Anything that takes my breath away. My work is about the wonder and energy of life and my aim is to communicate its essence. I work from sketches drawn in 'plein air' or I take photographs and re-create in my studio to produce paintings that hold and express the magic feeling of the moment. I create original, inspiring and vibrant paintings of nature, reflections, trees and flowers. I also produce limited edition fine prints and a collection of quality greetings cards. I do commissioned work and my clients include Adrian Moorhouse's Lane 4, Starbucks Coffee Company and many private individuals. My aim is to create an atmosphere of well being which in turn enables people to feel happier. Painting gives me a way to touch people's lives. It is why I paint.

Dear Annick, I am writing to thank you so much for the painting you have done for us. It is really good and even better than all the preliminary sketches. The colours are really vibrant and alive. It is just the sort of image for us, and something everyone has commented on. You have done a wonderful job.
