Giglée - what is it?

The word Giclée is derived from the French verb gicler meaning ‘to squirt’. Giclée is used to describe a fine art digital printing process. The prints are created using a high-resolution inkjet printer and a computer imaging application. Giclée offers a high degree of accuracy to the original artwork and allows a high saturation and richness of colour. Printed on 100% cotton archival water colour paper (i.e. acid-free and non-yellowing) using light fast pigment inks. Tests have suggested fade-resistance exceeding 75-100 years.

The Giclée produces a print that is completely true to the artist’s original intent, yet in and of itself has the look and feel of an original painting on paper. After the image is ‘fixed’ with a UV protective coating, the print becomes as archival and as long-lasting as any other work of art on paper. From the standpoint of the art collecting public, the Giclee Fine Art print offers the collector the same physical properties of an original painting and the advantages of a Fine Art Print : a fine work of art at a fraction of the price of an original.

Each original print is inspected and goes through several quality check before the artist gives final approval and signs and names the final print.

It is recommended that you treat your Giclée prints the same as any original watercolour. It should be protected from water and should not be placed in direct sunlight. It should be frame mounted behind glass.
